Ventures in Listening

I spent part of last night lying in bed, with C-Span on, listening to Supreme Court debate and hear argument on a case regarding 1st amendment rights, the media (internet) and Sex Offenders. Some heavy stuff, and it was audio only, but it’s always worth listening to the highest court in the land discuss anything.

Politics: Media Bias and the need for smaller government.

I watch C-Span and-and take in what is actually being said in the House of represents, the Senate, and other direct broadcasts of government meetings. I listen carefully to the words they say. I listen to all sides. I listen to them speak on behalf of their home districts/states. Then I watch the Left and Right in the media only hear what they want to hear and cherrypick what they show. This is an unending process.

Recently I heard one side screaming over the removal of a federal regulation they said was helping protect certain wildlife in specific parts of the country. What they failed to say was the people representing these areas, already had state and local laws in effect to protect said wildlife. They were doing what they could and using state and local law, to do what they thought was best for their state, without federal government oversight. They just wanted to room, to do what was best for their state. Was this mentioned in the news? Nope.

Stop asking for more rules to be made to enforce rules local areas already have. We need SMALLER GOVERNMENT. Wake up! State rights are greater than Federal. What works for your state, doesn’t always work for everyone else. We can’t cry we all want individual freedoms while trying to force the whole country into one mold. If you want some change that works for you, get up and be active in your town, your city, your community and help enact laws that work for your community.

Are there possibly some exceptions to the rule, where towns and states, might need some government help? Sure. However, overall we are suffocating over population, with repeating federal regulation, bogging down local rules we all already have. IF you don’t have the rules or protections you want in your state then… Get up and do something about it, and stop asking big government to do something about it! Don’t they have to too much power, already? Aren’t they making our Republic into a Circus already? Stop giving them more power to fix stuff, that may not even work for you, and may break us more. It’s time to get involved, and make local and state changes and stop asking big brother to do it for you.

Politics: The Spin Factory

The news coverage of Politics is pretty much always spun and twisted in some level of bias. Some outlets have less bias, but they all have it. I watch what is actually being said by the people running this country, and then watch it spun in every perceivable direction. I know this because I watch it daily with my own eyes.  I watch House and Senate meetings directly, as well as other broadcasts of government. If you watch actual government meetings regularly, then you watch/listen to/read the news you will see that you cannot get away from the Spin Factory!

Insanity: U.S.A.

The Right hates the Left. The Left hates the Right. If this rift wasn’t bad enough, some of these folks are pointing fingers at some of the rest of us. Wait! What?

Once upon a time Libertarians were just the weird cousin folks keep around for amusement. Not a lot of folks take us seriously, despite over 4 million presidential votes.

Now some folks on the Far-Left are calling for us to get punched in the face. Yes, the party that once marched for free speech is now advocating for Libertarians to be punch for defending anything they believe to be hate speech.

First of all, I am a peaceful, pacifist.(Anti-violence. Anti-War.)  I don’t really hate anyone. I am not sexist, racist, homophobic, etc… I am opinionated, but I am also quite kind and compassionate. And I deserve to get punched in the face?

Secondly, just because we push for free speech, doesn’t mean we are okay with the hate people spew. We don’t turn a blind eye to it. There are ways to strip, power and energy from hate speakers, trolls and the groups that support them, without taking away their free speech. Did you ever stop to think for one second, that some of your reactions to their words are actually pouring fuel on the fire, and making it worse? (Another post on better ways to fight  hate spewers to come.)

Thirdly, Stop! Just stop! We want you to have your right to say whatever, marry whoever, smoke whatever but we don’t  want any part of your in fighting. Hey, we hate Nazis too, we don’t blame you for wanting to punch them. (And if they touch you first, that’s  just self-defense. ) We just have a few different ways of fighting hate that doesn’t involve taking away the same right we wouldn’t want to have stripped from ourselves. The government is already trying to censor us all, why would we do the same to each other?

Am I going to stop you from punching a shitty human being in the face? No. I believe in Karma. I just won’t do it myself. I will fight in other ways.

If you’re going to peg everyone that defends EVERYONE’s first amendment rights, as your enemy, maybe it’s time for you to re-evaluate, or move to a country that aligns with your views, and stop stirring up problems with your pacifist neighbors.

Once again an example of people dividing us all, when we could be working together.

No Solution. More Problems.

It used to be, “If you’re not part of the solution you’re part of the problem.”

Somehow the Left and Right turned it into something else…

It’s now, “If you’re not part of OUR SOLUTION then YOU are the PROBLEM.”

And people wonder why we are divided?

We were never meant to be a two party system.

And we are slowly moving further away from the Republic we were meant to be.

It’s the hardest thing to watch.
